The Scallop Shell

The scallop shell is a prominent symbol of the Camino de Santiago and holds deep historical and spiritual significance for pilgrims. The scallop shell is connected to St. James, the apostle.  According to tradition, when his remains were discovered, they were said to be covered in scallop shells, leading to the shell becoming a symbol of his pilgrimage. The scallop shell encapsulates the spirit of the Camino de Santiago, representing guidance, community, and the deeper, often personal, journeys that pilgrims undertake on their way to Santiago.
